Claude (Rock baritone/tenor, twenties): A smart, young hippie who loves life and loves his hair. Claude follows his heart and struggles with his conscience. Tolerant and open, he loves everyone in the Tribe and provides them with an emotional center. He is Berger’s very best friend and is obsessed with Sheila.
Berger (Tenor, late teens-twenties): The leader of the Tribe, a social activist, and Claude’s best friend. Charismatic and entertaining, he loves to make people laugh – this is a role for a performer with great comic and dramatic skills.
Woof (High rock baritone/tenor - a good falsetto is desired, late teens-twenties): Sexy, masculine, energetic, fun-loving, far-out, freaky. Idolizes Berger and Mick Jagger. Bit of a space cadet.
Hud (Soul/Rock Baritone/Tenor, late teens-twenties, African-American): Speaks his mind and hopes you can keep up with him. High energy, spiritual performer with a strong voice and presence. The “in-your-face” African-American Tribe member, more into play than politics, but definitely aware.
Sheila (Rock Alto/Belter, twenties): The most intelligent member of the Tribe. Wants to change society through peaceful protest. She is a wild and dynamic activist with the political t-shirts and buttons to prove it. A student at NYU. Her passionate involvement in things, be it causes or people, can be a source of humor for onlookers. A street-smart student and social activist, but totally in love with Berger.
Jeanie (Alto, late teens-twenties): A follower, not a leader. Incredibly sweet, understands Claude better than anyone. Wise, passionate, creative woman, who is pregnant with the Tribe's baby. She has taken every drug, and takes care of the Tribe.
Crissy (Mezzo, late teens-twenties): A true flower child and street urchin who misses her former lover. She loves the Tribe.
Plus members of the Tribe
Dionne (Alto/Mezzo Belt, late teens-twenties, African-American): Sassy and lots of fun. She is warm and compassionate. A strong presence with a strong sense of justice and irony. Sings "Aquarius".
