Viewpoints and Creative Composition with Aradhana Tiwari

Saturday, July 12: 9am-5pm

Sunday, July 13: 9am-5pm

Monday July 14: 7-10pm

This three-day intensive workshop is open to anyone with a willing spirit to explore their creativity. Through a series of interactive group-based exercises, instructor Aradhana Tiwari will introduce participants to the Viewpoints theatre training technique and composition, which addresses essential performance concepts such as becoming present, active listening, spontaneity, trust, and spatial relationships. Participants will build confidence in a welcoming learning environment. The workshop will be limited to 15 participants. Prior knowledge of Viewpoints is not necessary.

A theatre technique that provides a vocabulary for thinking about and acting upon movement and gesture, the Viewpoints technique was first created by choreographer Mary Overlie in the 1970s. Director Anne Bogart and the artists of the Saratoga International Theatre Institute (SITI) Company later developed Overlie’s technique for the stage. Since then, this system of improvisation has become a dominant form of actor training in the United States.
